About ABHI
The Association of British Healthcare Industries (ABHI) is the trade association for medical devices and technology in the UK. The ABHI works for the healthcare technology industry in the UK across the continuum from early innovations to driving for efficiencies in the interactions between large businesses and their customers. It spans industry best practice, practical export support and targeted influencing of the policy makers. It operates through four policy groups to ensure that ABHI activities reflect the priorities of the industry today and match these to the needs of patients, clinicians and the healthcare system as a whole.
ABHI membership includes manufacturers and distributors of a wide range of medical products from latex gloves to hi-tech life support machines. To support the interests of members, ABHI, together with other Trade Associations and the Medilink organisations across the UK, works with a range of organisations including: Department of Health and NHS - especially on industrial sponsorship (DH is the lead sponsoring department of the health technologies industry), procurement, regulatory (MHRA) and research and development aspects of policy; DTI on competitiveness policy; EUCOMED on EU related policy issues; Health Technologies KTN; NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement, and the NHS Innovation Hubs; Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC).
